Monopoly Go developer Scopely opens new studio in Saudi Arabia

Savvy Games Group-owned Monopoly Go developer Scopely has opened a new studio in Saudi Arabia named Mirai.
The Riyadh-based office is led by industry veteran Charity Joy. She brings over 17 years of games industry experience and has previously held roles at EA and Disney, acting as the GM at UK studio Criterion and creative lead on Club Penguin.
Scopely said it plans to extend its footprint in the MENA region with the new studio and accelerate the growth of local talent through training and development for those new to games.
The publisher noted that its identity, represented by its origami-inspired ‘S’ icon, aligns with its vision to "unfold a world". This led to the name ‘Mirai’, which means ‘future’ in Japanese.
Savvy Games Group discussed earlier this year its plans to increase Scopely’s presence in Saudi Arabia, which employs more than 2,300 staff around the world. Savvy acquired the Monopoly Go and Stumble Guys developer for $4.9 billion in 2023.
Growing the MENA region
“Our presence in Riyadh will have its own identity: Mirai, a Scopely company, designed to foster and cultivate the future of the MENA games landscape," said Scopely's COO Eunice Lee.
“As part of that ongoing ambition to build the most talent-dense Scopely ecosystem possible, we continue to expand to new markets around the globe. We see an incredible opportunity to invest in this emerging market and passionate talent base to build the best games possible."
Charity added: “When life hands you an adventure, you say yes. Mirai is mine, and I’m ready to put my two decades of experience to work to build something impactful that will contribute to the world of games.
“I am honored to embark on the journey of leading Mirai, aiming to build an incredible, world-class team that thrives on continuous learning and accelerates the capacity of the game development talent in the region."
