Niantic to offer AR services outside games with Niantic Spatial Platform

- Niantic Spatial Platform is Niantic's new endeavour to apply its tech to work and play
Niantic has unveiled its new Niantic Spatial Platform (NSP) business that combines its tools, services and products to create new "spatial experiences".
The developer hopes to offer the new platform's services - built on its "third generation" 3D digital map - to businesses in games and other industries.
Bracing for an AR "wave"
Many NSP solutions are built upon Lightship's foundational tools - a cross-platform toolkit for designing real-world AR experiences - and Niantic hopes to see it applied in various sectors like business, storage and venues.
Expecting a "wave" of outdoor AR glasses in the future, Niantic also aims to sell its NSP solutions to optimise workflows and enable more remote collaboration between mobile phones and AR headsets.
NSP is currently compatible with iOS, Android, Meta Quest, Magic Leap 2 and Apple Vision Pro.
"Since we introduced Niantic Lightship, we have discovered our tools, technologies and services solve a multitude of real-world location-based business problems," read a statement from Niantic.
"This evolution of the SDK for Unity means that game developers and businesses can easily build experiences unique to their respective products and services.
"As new devices come to market we will continue to ensure our Niantic Spatial Platform tools and services give developers and businesses the best options to capture, locate and augment, all tied to our leading third generation map."
