Indie publisher Humble Games has partnered with startup games publisher Good Games Group, which is comprised of ex-Humble staff including former general manager Alan Patmore.
The partnership will allow ex-employees to continue supporting Humble Games’ titles even after they were laid off.
A deal of reunion
The status of Humble Games was unclear this summer as a restructuring initiative resulted in significant layoffs, with some claims suggesting all 36 employees were let go.
Humble Games affirmed that upcoming releases would not be affected, nor would operations from its owner, Humble Bundle. However, it was The Powell Group that was tasked with finishing off remaining Humble Games projects back in July, leaving some uncertainty around the status of the company - whether this really was a restructuring or in fact a shutdown.
Now, Humble Games is to work with past employees on its back catalogue via this Good Games Group partnership, meanwhile The Powell Group is supporting the production of future games.
Alongside Patmore, the new publisher is headed up by former Humble Games global publishing VP Mark Nash; the pair were among those laid off earlier this year and went on to found Good Games Group, on a mission to support indie game development and titles "delighting gamers worldwide".
"Good Games Group’s mission is to bring exceptional indie games to the global gaming community," said Patmore. "Partnering with Ziff Davis allows us to continue working with the amazing indie developers we collaborated with at Humble Games, while also allowing us to chart a new course for the future."
In its near 14-year history, Humble Games has released games across PC, console and mobile, including Slay the Spire, Forager and Crying Suns.
