Direct-to-consumer platform for mobile game publishers Appcharge has raised $26 million in a Series A investment round to fuel its growth.

The company plans to use the funding to scale its web shop and third-party payment services. Appcharge enables direct sales of virtual items and currency to help developers retain a greater revenue share (up to 95%) and boost player loyalty. Its all-in-one platform includes branded web stores, gamified offers, payment solutions, and mobile SDKs for in-app payments.

Appcharge said it is currently processing more than $200 million a year in payments for studios including Huuuge Games, AppLovin and Product Madness.

The Series A round was led by Creandum, with participation from Supercell, BITKRAFT Ventures, and Moneta Ventures alongside existing investors Play Ventures, Glilot Capital, and angel investors.

A win-win situation

“The gaming industry is undergoing a major transformation as DTC models gain momentum, driven by new regulations targeting traditional app stores along with rising user acquisition costs," said Appcharge CEO Maor Sason.

“Today’s publishers have a need to go direct-to-consumer. Everybody wins. Players get more value for their money and an experience that compliments gameplay, and publishers increase revenue and form stronger connections with players."

Creandum's general partner Carl Fritjofsson added: “Appcharge is the Robinhood of mobile gaming, redistributing revenues from the giants of Apple and Google into the hands of games developers and app creators."

Supercell investments lead Jaakko Harlas commented: “Players are the most valuable asset to a studio’s success. Providing the best player experiences is key to everything we do at Supercell. That’s why we’re investing in gaming technology in addition to backing great studios. Appcharge provides the tools to engage and reward players while creating individualized experiences, enabling publishers to deepen long-term relationships.”
