UGC platform games developer and publisher Look North World has raised an additional $2.25 million to bring total seed funding in the start-up to $4.5m.

The round was led by London Venture Partners and also included Bandai Namco Entertainment 021 Fund, Overwolf, Crush Ventures, the venture arm of Crush Music, Hasbro, Pix Capital, and returning investors Hibbard Road Partners.

Look North World was founded last year and is led by former Bungie founder and CEO Alexander Seropian. It plans to use the funding to accelerate the production of original games. The studio currently has 15 titles in development.

The company has previously released five games on Unreal Engine for Fortnite (UEFN), as well as two premium mods for ARK: Survival Ascended. Its ARK x Power Rangers mod, made in collaboration between Overwolf, Hasbro and Studio Wildcard, was said to have surpassed 800,000 units.

Creator label

As well as raising investment, the studio also launched a new creator label, a program aimed at supporting individuals building experiences on “creator” platforms such as Fortnite, Roblox and Minecraft.

Its first title under the new initiative, Dream Job Tycoon, has already launched. Signed creators to date include Austin ‘TomJank’ Rodriguez and Jon ‘SightedSloth’ Jungemann.

As a creator label, Look North World said its services included a guaranteed advance, long-term ownership of IP, a marketing budget to support distribution, and artistic and technical support.

“There is a tectonic shift occurring in the games industry, reinventing how games are made and brought to market,” said Look North World CEO and founder Alex Seropian.

“At Look North World, we have embraced this evolution by choosing to build within platforms that allow experimentation, quick iteration, and access to a massive audience. Our creator label, which mirrors our approach to embracing UGC as the future of gaming, enables us to support creators and take risks on games that would otherwise never get greenlit.”
