Award-winning charity SpecialEffect has raised £600,000 from the global games industry during the One Special Day fundraising campaign in October.

Top games companies contributed some or all of their game sales revenue from around October 4, 2024, to support the charity's mission of empowering gamers with disabilities.

The funds will support SpecialEffect's efforts to remove gaming barriers, promote joy, inclusive design and independence through expert assessments, research and collaboration.

Over the years

The annual One Special Day campaign has raised over £3 million across eight years. This year’s campaign included a Steam Sale, a Humble Bundle promotion, and various events like auctions and football matches, raising over £100,000.

“We are seeing an ever-increasing demand for our services, which are all provided without charge," said SpecialEffect founder and CEO Dr Mick Donegan. “The support the event receives from the games industry is absolutely vital in making sure we can continue to reach every disabled person that needs our help."

“Without One Special Day we simply couldn’t bring a better quality of life to so many people across the world, and we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in the event – industry, gamers and donors.”
