Sony-published mobile RPG Fate/Grand Order has been a bigger financial success than Pokemon GO on Android in Japan, according to Bloomberg.

The game was launched in July 2015 and has achieved seven million downloads since, which is a far cry from Pokemon GO's 500 million downloads globally in just a few months.

However, data from App Annie shows that Fate/Grand Order beat Pokemon GO 104 days out of 133 in the top grossing charts on Android since the latter launched. On iOS, Fate/Grand Order out-grossed the game on 51 days.

As of Monday, December 5th, Fate/Grand Order was positioned 2nd on Japan’s Google Play top grossing chart and 6th on the Japanese App Store - both higher rankings than the still wildly successul Pokemon GO.

No surprises

How much revenue Fate/Grand Order has made is unknown. It did help push revenues up by 8% for Sony's music division, where the game has been placed within the company.

It's not entirely surprising that other games have been more successful than Pokemon GO in Japan. The game has fluctuated in the top ten grossing ranks since it launched.

Fate/Grand Order, meanwhile, is unlikely to see a release outside of Asia and therefore hit Pokemon GO's levels of global success.
