Infinity Nikki due to launch later this year as series goes cross-platform

- The fifth installment in the Nikki franchise, Infinity Nikki, is expected to launch later this year
- Pre-registrations are open for the new title launching cross-platform
After appearing at Gamescom last week, Infold Games’ open-world stylist title Infinity Nikki is open for pre-registrations with a cross-platform launch planned by the end of 2024.
It's the fifth instalment in the Nikki franchise, a series of games all about dressing up the titular Nikki in high-fidelity, glamourous outfits from various designers around the world.
And in Infinity Nikki’s case, players will take Nikki through the culturally diverse Miraland, harnessing the power of Whim to form new styles anytime, anywhere.
A super stylish history
The Nikki series’ origins go back over a decade, beginning with a 2012 mobile game entitled Nikki UP2U: A Dressing Story. Developed by Infold Games and CatCap Studio, Nikki’s journey started out on a much smaller scale; players would dress Nikki in suitable day-to-day clothes for a given activity, such as going out for a meal or wearing pyjamas in bed.
One year later, Infold Games launched a sequel called Hello Nikki - Let’s Beauty Up as a premium mobile game in China, this time focusing on Nikki’s worldwide travels with a range of stages to complete. The title was localised in English in 2015 but ended service one year later.
With the third entry, Love Nikki - Dress Up Queen, the series shifted to a more fantastical approach with a magical journey across seven nations, and dress-up battles with designers from around the world. This title officially surpassed 100 million players worldwide, and according to AppMagic data, has generated more than $285 million in gross revenue to date.
Its follow-up Shining Nikki - Fashion Makeover was Infold Games’ first fully 3D dress-up game combining fashion with RPG elements. This fourth title spent three years in development, released in 2019, and has earned over $416 million in gross revenue to date.
The latest trend
Now Infold Games is taking the new Infinity Nikki cross-platform for the first time, building the open-world game in Unreal Engine 5 and planning its release for PC, PS4, PS5 and mobile later this year. The game promises platforming, puzzle-solving, a fantastical journey and, of course, plenty of dressing up.
"Initially, when we started making dress-up games, many people couldn’t understand it, thinking such games were too niche to sustain a startup," said Infold Games in an interview with Epic Games.
"However, we proved that there is a significant market for dress-up games. When we proposed creating a 3D dress-up game with AAA standards, many thought it was impossible, but we found a way to make it."
Infinity Nikki has 13.5 million pre-registrations thus far, with a target of 30 million by launch offering maximum rewards.
Infold Games is the new international brand name for Paper Games, headquartered in Singapore with branches across Los Angeles, Tokyo, Seoul and Taipei.
